#InspireInclusion - Navigating the Road Less Travelled: The Inspiring Journey of Ma. Isabel Al-os

Wednesday, March 27, 2024

The life journey of Ma. Isabel Al-os is a testament to resilience and courage in the face of life's uncertainties. Starting her professional journey at the young age of 25, Ma. Isabel's path diverged from the conventional as she transitioned from aspiring Police Officer to skilled Heavy Equipment Operator.  Her story challenges stereotypes and underscores the importance of self-discovery and following one's true calling.

Ma. Isabel's initial dream of joining the police force was driven by her desire to contribute to society's safety and order.  However, a sudden turn of events, marked by her father's untimely demise due to COVID-19, led her to reconsider her career path. Honoring her father's wishes for her safety, became a pivotal moment prompting Ma. Isabel to embark on a period of uncertainty and reflection.

Her journey took an unexpected turn as she found herself working in a BPO Company in Cebu. While enriching, this experience felt mundane and took a toll on her health. It was during this challenging period that Ma. Isabel discovered a new opportunity: the Community-Based Training for Heavy Equipment Operators (CBTHEO) of PASAR Foundation Inc. Encouraged by her mother, Ma. Isabel found solace and excitement in the prospect of operating heavy machinery – a passion that had always served as her sanctuary and stress reliever.

The transition from aspiring law enforcer to Heavy Equipment Operator was not merely a career change but a return to her true self – to what she loved doing the most. Despite working in a traditionally male-dominated field, Ma. Isabel found an inclusive environment where her questions were welcomed, and guidance freely given. This acceptance and encouragement solidified her belief in her chosen path, envisioning a future where she could rise to leadership positions within the industry.

Her advice to others is clear and empowering: "Don't listen to other people because you know who you are! And if you love what you do, everything will go smoothly." Her journey exemplified the importance of perseverance, self-belief, and following one's passion, regardless of societal norms or pressures. To those embarking on unconventional careers or facing unusual career shifts, Ma. Isabel's message is one of encouragement and solidarity. Her path teaches us that with determination, every challenge can be overcomed, and every dream can be realized.

Ma. Isabel Al-os' story transcended mere career change; it was a narrative of listening to one's heart, embracing one’s inner passion, and navigating life's twists and turns with courage. As she continues her internship at PASAR, her journey serves as an inspiration for anyone standing at the crossroads of their careers, reminding us of all that the path less traveled can lead to the most rewarding destinations.
